Gallardo Having Knee Checked Out

This could end up being a non-issue, but Yovani Gallardo is having his knee examined today. The right-hander may have torn knee cartilage, after he felt discomfort and had his knew swell up earlier in the week.

If Gallardo does need surgery, he'd be out 2-3 weeks, but then according to Tom Haudricourt of JSOnline.com, he'd likely start the season on the disabled list. He wouldn't be out long, but Gallardo's presence is needed if the Brewers are going to be a playoff contender.

Speaking of which, Baseball Prospectus, through some mathetic mumbo jumbo of theirs, have released their projected standings for the 2008 season. You need to subscribe to get the full details, but I can tell you that they have projected the Brewers to take second in the NL Central (Cubs), but claim the wild-card spot. They also like the Mets and D-Backs to win their divisions.

In the AL, they like the Yankees, Indians, Angels, and Red Sox (wild card). If nothing else, it's good to see that the increased level of Brewer excitement and expectation isn't just wishful thinking.

More on Gallardo later.
