Brewers Win In Front of Crowded House

Bear and I are loving the band Crowded House so much lately, that they have even made their way into the headlines for Brewers posts. Seriously, we pretty rocked that band at a select few Fondy bars on Friday night, including a beautiful rendition of "Don't Dream It's Over" by myself on the karaoke machine. We might have went a little overboard, but we had reason to be cheerful as we just witness the Brewers knock off the Cubs in front of 42,025 fans at Miller Park.

The Friday night game was a little reminiscent of a game we saw just a few short months ago, when Ryan Braun hit a two-run home run in the 8th inning against Chicago to help the Brewers clinch a playoff spot. Braun did the same thing last night, as his home run gave the Brewers the 3-2 lead, and eventually the ballgame.

(Quick sidenote: I was just looking for Uecker's call of the Braun home run last year on YouTube - "THEY TAKE THE LEEEAD!" - but couldn't find it. I did however stumble upon a choppy video shot by a fan when all of Miller Park watched the Mets / Marlins game that eventually clinched the playoff spot for the Crew. You can barely even make out the game, but I did almost start crying when I saw the fan's perspective of the stadium go nuts after the Mets loss. I know it's stupid, but I just love the Brewers so much. That's why it makes me mad when some guy comments on Winks Thinks about how I can't refer to the Brewers as "we". I am a part of this team, we all are. That's all I wanted to say. I just really love Milwaukee baseball).

After Braun's home run, Trevor Hoffman came into the game for his fifth save in five tries as a Brewer. How great is it to have Trevor Hoffman by the way? I have 100% confidence in this guy, something I never had in Torres, Gagne, or even Cordero. How great is it to have a shut down closer like this? I also might cry when he gives up his first run of the season, but right now I'm loving this 0.00 ERA.

Not too many other highlights in this one. J.J. Hardy did hit a home run in the 6th inning, his fifth of the year. Cubs' third basemen Aramis Ramirez injured his shoulder during a play, and I felt no remorse. Dave Bush had a very serviceable start, going seven innings while allowing just two runs. Overall, it was just your typical comeback for the Crew this season, as they improved their record to 17-13. They'll go for a series win tonight, with first pitch at 6:05. It's Gallardo on the hill for Milwaukee, and Ryan Dempster on the hill for the Cubs.

Player of the Game: Ryan Braun.

Since I couldn't find another Crowded House song that was actually good, here's their song "Don't Dream It's Over", sung a little slower, and to clips of Ryan and Taylor from The O.C.!

I hear on Sunday they had 500 limited edition Braun Bobbleheads with a button for the audio of Ueck's call from the Cubs game last year (which the pose was modeled after). Already going for almost $200 on ebay.

I just received one of those limited edition audio bobbleheads from my a charity auction this past week. I was googling around trying to find how many they made and came across this post. I also see that you couldn't find a great audio clip of Uecker's call. After each game last year on Jim Powell's blog, you could download the recap they do of the game which includes all the big calls and more. I was able to download this one which Uecker announces and which is different because Powell always did that.

If you would like a copy, please email me at derek [at] derekmontgomery [dot] com and I will send you a copy.

Sorry for that above, trying to avoid the spam bots from picking up my email address. Go Brewers!
