Jennings Helps Rookies Win

In the annual NBA All-Star Weekend Rookie Challenge on Friday night, speed proved to be better than size for the Rookie team. They had no seven footers on their team, but they did have the guy with no ACL's in DeJuan Blair. Blair had just a monster second half for the Rookie team. He finished the game with 22 points, and 23 rebounds. I don't know how he didn't win the MVP award, oh wait yeah I do, it was fan vote. The fans voted for Tyreke Evans, who had a good game too. The cool thing about these guys is that they are not only about themselves. When Evans was given the award he said he wanted to share it with Blair. Good to see the big guy get his love.

As for our Bucks' Brandon Jennings, he had a good game but also got his name out there with his hair style. He went with the Gumby haircut, and it got a lot of attention right away. He also put up some good numbers that helped to get him noticed. He finished the game with 22 points, 8 assists, 6 rebounds, and 4 steals. He missed a few easy shots that might have cost him a chance to win the MVP. He also got screwed by his teammates because he had a few nice passes that were not handled that cost him a chance at a double double. I think if he gets a double double he might be in the running for the MVP.

This game is underrated for people who view it. I really think this game needs to be shown at a better time. I really enjoyed the game, because it let these guys go out and have fun. It also was good because these guys have all the energy in the world so they would work hard to win the game. Most All-Star games you don't see much defense, but you could tell these guys were trying to play some defense. I know the score was high so you might be thinking how were they playing defense, but the game was so up and down the court.

The worst part about the game was how tough it was for the big guys. Brooke Lopez, Marc Gasol, and Kevin Love don't fit well into this game. Don't get me wrong I love how these guys play the game, but it just seemed that they were not having at much fun because of the pace of the game.

I have to say that Jennings passes his first All-Star test Friday night. He has to step it up again Saturday night when he will compete in the skills challenge. Derrick Rose didn't play in the game Friday night so I would think that he will probably also sit out Saturday night in the Skills Challenge. Not sure who will step in, but it does open the door for the other people when the defending champ is not in the challenge. All we can hope for is that he does well, and maybe even brings home a trophy.
