Miller Leads U.S. Over The Swiss

I'm not sure how I really feel about these Winter Olympics so far. I did unexpectedly get very in to the Snowboard Cross event the other day, but then five minutes ago I just watched an Italian dude skate around like a gay cowboy. Kind of a mixed bag so far. But there's one thing I'm hoping Winter Olympic fans can all agree on, and that's how glad we are that the hockey tournament has started.

Not bad for a guy that could have given two shits about hockey this time last new, but with my newfound love of the Buffalo Sabres I'm all in right now. My interest in Team USA is only heightened by the fact that their goalie is Ryan Miller of those Sabres I love so dear. We had the first chance to see Miller and his teammates Tuesday night as they faced over against Switzerland.

Pretty easy game for the Americans, as they came out ahead with a 3-1 victory. Bobby Ryan (Anaheim), David Backes (St. Louis), and Ryan Malone (Tampa Bay) all found the back of the night for Team USA, while Miller didn't do too bad himself. He stopped 14 of 15 shots, the lone goal coming off of a Switzerland power play. Still would have liked to see Miller get the shutout, as he has been shaky the last couple of weeks for Buffalo, and I was worried about how he'd look in the Olympics.

So far so good though for USA, and they'll take on Norway this Thursday in their second game before a Sunday tilt against the heavily favored Canadians. Be sure to check those games out if you can, in between all the Johnny Weir figure skating action of course.

Yeah, slow news week.
