Packers Franchise Pickett

Do you think there will ever be a time in your life when your employer says, "You know what? You are so valuable to us that we're not going to let anyone else have you. If someone does try to take you, they have to give us two of their most valuable future hires. In exchange for all this, here's seven million dollars this season." I sure as hell know that won't be the case for me, as that would first require one of my employers actually wanting me at all. But that is the case with Ryan Pickett, as he's been franchised by the Packers.

Surely, as valuable as Pickett is to us no team is going to give us two first round picks to sign him, so expect him back in green (navy?) and gold next season. The Packers still have some time to work out a multi-year deal with Pickett, but if not he'll be reeling in some pretty good cash next season.

“Ryan has been a good teammate and productive player for us on the field and also a good representative of the Packers in the community,” Ted Thompson said in a statement released by the Packers. “We look forward to having him be a part of our future.”

No complaints here. Big men like Pickett are extremely valuable in our 3-4 scheme, and he should continue to be a good player and a strong mentor to B.J. Raji.
