Brewers Hire Roenicke As Manager

After weeks of speculation, rumors, and false alarms, the Brewers have finally named their new manager, Ron Roenicke.

Roenicke has served as a coach with the Angels for eleven years, managing in the minor leagues before that.  Roenicke spent eight seasons playing outfield in the Majors for the Dodgers, Mariners, Padres, Giants, Phillies, and Reds.

Early speculation had Bob Melvin as the leading candidate for the job, only to eventually switch into Bobby Valentine as the leading candidate.  "Leading" or not, Doug Melvin said that Roenicke was his "first and only choice."

Tom Haudricourt also reported that Bob Melvin and Joey Cora were informed earlier that they did not get the job.

More to come later after Roenicke's formal introduction.
