Marquette Fights Back for Win

Marquette was back in action on Sunday night, and the first half was a rough one for the Golden Eagles as they got behind 41-33 at halftime. Their opponent Bucknell was able to move the ball around and find open shots. Well Buzz must have told the guys to lock down the defense in the second half, because Marquette went on a 24-0 run from the 10:21 mark to the 1:41 mark in the second half. That played a huge role in the 72-61 Marquette win.

That is a very impressive run, and the Eagles were just a blanket to everyone on Bucknell. The good defense led to easy buckets for Marquette, so on a day when they had a hard time shooting, bringing the defensive game was huge. Another freshman had a big game for Marquette too, this time it was Davante Gardner. He carried the Eagles in the second half with 11 points and 7 rebounds.

Dwight Buycks, who is pictured above after hitting a big three, led the way in scoring finishing with 17 points. He also had three rebounds and three assists. We're still waiting for Johnson-Odom to get his game going though. I think for this team to be good, DJO and Buycks will have to score the points night in and night out. Adding to the stat line was Jae Crowder, he finished with a double double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. He seems to be the guy that is rebounding the best for the Eagles, but he is only 6 foot 6. Check out the rest of the box score from this game here.

Next up for Marquette is UW-Green Bay at the Bradley Center Wednesday. Never know what will happen when the two state teams battle it out on the court. Green Bay did take down the Badgers last season, so anything could happen.
