Brewers Add Takashi Saito

The Brewers continue to add depth to their bullpen, adding RHP Takashi Saito to a one year, 3.2 Mil deal.

Saito, who will be 41 in February, posted a 2.83 ERA, 11.5 K/9, 2.8 BB/9, 0.7 HR/9, and 43.6% groundball rate in 54 innings for the Braves this year.  He dealt with hamstring and shoulder injuries and has had serious elbow issues in the past, so the deal reflects the health uncertainty despite Saito's fantastic numbers.

Saito probably becomes the best pitcher in the Brewers bullpen with this move. Zach Braddock has the potential to put up similar numbers, and John Axford was impressive as a closer last year. However, Saito’s command takes the cake from both of these youngsters.  The one downside to Saito is his age.  At age 40 don't expect to see Saito pitching in many consecutive days, but will probably be good for 50-60 innings in 2011.
