Brewers Non-Tender Coffey, Inglett

With the early day news of the Brewers losing out on Eric Hinske (1yr/1.6mil w/ATL) it would seem that Joe Inglett would be safe through the night and still be a Brewer when Friday started.  Clearly, that was not the way it was going to happen.  The Brewers Non-Tender Inglett Thursday, along with RHP Todd Coffey.

Inglett hit .254 in 142 plate apperences in 2010, primarily coming of the bench as a pinch hitter.  Melvin stated early in the off-season he really wanted to improve the teams power coming off of the bench, so by following that logic, Inglett really didn't have a spot.

Along with Inglett, Todd Coffeys run (to the mound in 8.9 seconds) in Milwaukee is over.  Coffey had a 4.76 era in 62.1 innings for the Brewers in 2010, but saw his numbers significantly drop from his 2.90 era in 2009.

The Coffey non-tender to me makes perfect sense in the fact that there are much cheaper options who have the ability to put up around the same numbers, if not better (see Mike McClendon and Brandon Kintzler).  Inglett on the other hand proved as a great utility infielder/outfielder who seemed to be good at getting on base.  But if the rumors of the Brewers trying to re-sign Counsell are true, then Inglett really doesn't seem to have a place.

Most will be quiet on the Brewers news front I assume until December 6th.  Then it's the Winter Meetings, where GM's go to get drunk and make crazy trades.  Bring that shit on.
