Lemmy and Bucky Pick the Bowls: January 1st

TicketCity Bowl - Northwestern (7-5) vs. Texas Tech (7-5) - 12pm ET - ESPNU

Winks: Northwestern made it to the Rose Bowl once. Something tells me that will never happen again. They are the worst school in the Big Ten, and would be contracted out of the league if Jim Delaney didn't have his heart set on world domination. Texas Tech.

Lemmy: Texas Tech. Never bet on Northwestern. Sometimes it is that easy.

Outback Bowl - Florida (7-5) vs. Penn State (7-5) - 1pm ET - ABC

Winks: Penn State was pretty much in the exact center of the Big Ten this center, beating the bad teams while losing to the good ones. Florida was pretty much the same in the SEC. And since the SEC is the unquestioned best conference in football (according to CBS anyway), we're going with Florida. I should take Penn State here so that me and Lemmy don't have the exact same picks every time, but that would make too much sense.

Lemmy: In Urban Meyer's last game at the helm, and Joe Pa's 400th to last, we're going with the emotional pick in Florida.

Capital One Bowl - #16 Alabama (9-3) vs. #9 Michigan State (11-1) - 1pm - ESPN

Winks: Ladies and gentlemen, this is your "Oh My God, that Team Got Crushed and Flat Out Embarrassed, What a Surprise That We Actually Should Have Seen Coming" bowl. Bama, big.

Lemmy: We like Michigan State at +10 in this spot, but not enough to take them straight up. Roll Tide.

Progressive Gator Bowl - #21 Mississippi State (8-4) vs. Michigan (7-5) - 1:30pm - ESPN2

Winks: Denard Robinson impressed the hell out of us when Michigan was 5-0. Then they started playing teams that didn't suck, and he didn't impress us quite so much. In an embarrassing season for the Wolverines in which they got crushed by both Wisconsin and the hideous uniforms worn by Ohio State, their pain won't end in the Gator Bowl. Mississippi State gets the square.

Lemmy: We've seen too much inconsistency from this Mississippi State team and, well, more of the same from Michigan. Miss. State is favored by about four or five points, but we like the Wolverines in an upset.

Rose Bowl Game presented by Vizio - #5 Wisconsin (11-1) vs. #3 TCU (12-0) - 4:30pm ET - ESPN

Winks: How sad is it that this site is called "The Bucky Channel" and this is the only semblance of a Rose Bowl preview we are providing. I was able to do so much more on this site when I was unemployed, I really was. Oh well. As you know, TCU is one of my teams that I pulled for all season, because I'm clueless and figured that if a non automatic qualifier made the BCS title game, then the BCS would just say "fuck it" and then create a playoff. Well, not only will that not happen, but the Badgers are going to do work on TCU. I want to say that it's going to be close, but I just don't think it will. Fifteen point win by Wisconsin, at least.

Lemmy: Speaking of point spreads, this is one of the more valuable plays in the bowl season--something these Bucky Channel readers will surely enjoy. The Badgers are at +3 in the Rose Bowl over the unbeaten, yet unchallenged Horned Frogs of TCU. We hate to conform to the views of all you homers over here, but with a rushing attack as volatile as the Badgers, everything should come up roses in Wisconsin.

Tostitos Fiesta Bowl - Connecticut (8-4) vs. #7 Oklahoma (11-2) - 8pm - ESPN

Winks: Remember when Oklahoma was shocked in a BCS bowl when they lost to Boise State? No chance that happens here. UConn lost to Michigan even this season. And Temple. And Rutgers. And Louisville. UConn sucks. Boomer Sooner, even though that's derogatory in same way.

Lemmy: The spread is being a bit inflated by the fact that UConn doesn't belong here (currently at -16.5 for Oklahoma), but we think Connecticut will play with a huge chip on their shoulder. And still lose bad.
