The Bucks Are Stupid and I am Mad

If you are going to ask me in ten years why the Bucks did not make the 2010-2011 playoffs, I will refer you to one twenty-six second interval of the season. Those twenty-six seconds happen to be the waning moments of Friday night's game against the Indiana Pacers, the very team that the Bucks were chasing for the Eastern conference's eighth seed. You see, the Pacers had possession and were leading by one, and the time on the clock was just a smidgen more than the time on the shot clock. Instead of doing what a normal basketball team would do by chasing and fouling, the Bucks instead let the Pacers run the clock down and take a shot. Meanwhile, I'm screaming at the TV the whole time wondering what Scott Skiles has planned here.

Thankfully, the Pacers miss the shot and the Bucks get the rebound. Skiles calls the timeout and the Bucks get to inbound the ball in the front court with about three seconds to go. So Skiles' gamble pays off, and now it's time for the final shot. Well, the end result was a disgrace, as the inbound pass went to Drew Gooden for some reason and he clanked a three point attempt off of the backboard. Bucks lose. The playoff dream is over.

So many questions as a result of this performance. Obviously, the fact that we didn't chase and foul is alarming. Then the fact that the inbound pass went to Drew Gooden is more concerning. Actually, the fact that Gooden was even on the floor at that time instead of anyone else to take a three - Boykins, Redd, anyone! - is what is most confusing. Anyway, the whole game was a mess which is very indicative of how this Bucks season has gone. I know that Scott Skiles has had to deal with a lot of injuries this season, and I don't blame him for that, but I do blame him for Friday night. It was just a terribly executed game, and a terribly executed finish. It's almost as if the Bucks didn't want to win, and that doesn't settle right with me. I don't know, I know I've written better recaps and have had more clear thoughts on the subject, but the Bucks were stupid tonight and I needed to express how I felt.

Go Brewers!
