Yovani Gives Up 6 In Third, Brewers Lose 7-6

What is happening to the Brewers pitching staff? Could Bill Castro be the cause of this, I will say no, but something is causing the Brewers pitchers to lose focus and totally get psyched out in terms of hitting the strike zone.

You think, having Yovani Gallardo pitch tonight would change that. Instead, Yo-Go did his best Suppan impression by walking several batters in the top of the 3rd inning and then giving up a grand slam against Edwin Encarnacion, leading to 6 runs. The Brewers were up 5-1 after the second, which was soon erased. After that, it became a scratch and claw match where every time the hitters looked to get something they blew it, including a bases-loaded no out situation in the 4th inning ending with no runs.

Bullpen arms picked up the slack, not allowing the Reds to score after the 3rd, while striking out 6. Stetter, DiFelice, and Coffey combined for the 4 inning end game effort. Meanwhile our ace pitched decently, with one terrible inning. Gallardo ended with 7 earned runs and 3 K's in 5 innings in the losing effort. Edison Volquez picked up the win in an equally awful effort, while Co-Co got the save....boo.

The bats looked good at times, as Corey Hart was 2-3 with a 3 run bomb and a walk. Jason Kendall went 2-4 to raise is average to a cool .105. Others in the not-so-elite .100 club, Braun walked three times and had a stolen base while J.J. Hardy hit a solo shot in the 5th inning.

All I know is that there is somebody in my house, eating my birthday cake, with my family, and its not me!

It's weird, like we are currently in some Bizarro-Brewers world, our most consistent hitters are Hart, Weeks, Cameron, and Hall while Prince, Braun, Hardy and Kendall are floundering. Our Bullpen, with the exception of Villanueva's hiccup the other night has looked alright and our starters have been pretty awful.

What does all this mean? Sure its frustrating, but were 7 games in, consider me worried if we are sitting at 5-15 after 20 games, or near that. I'm sure things will begin to turn around, and the great thing about baseball is sometimes all it takes is one play for a winning streak to happen.

The Crew get wannabe-Rockstar and carpal-tunnel sufferer Bronson Arroyo tomorrow, as the Brewers send out Manny Parra. Game time is 7:05 and will be on FSN.

I read somewhere Brewers might trade for Peavy?

Great write up Fred and even better quote for the box score. Gotta love the Governator.
