It was a series that was going to hell in a handbasket - whatever that means - and the Brewers needed a victory to at least salvage things down in Florida. Milwaukee came out with a vengeance, racing out to an 8-run lead and looking like they were in control of this game. But as has been the case in this series, the Brewers regressed and gave up some stupid runs in the fifth inning. Since I didn't catch much of the game, I'm going to relay what my man Dan Walsh wrote on Sports Bubbler earlier today:
The 5th inning was arguably one of the worst/longest innings ever: 51 minutes, 21 batters, 10 runs scored and numerous pitching changes. Thankfully the Brewers had 6 of those runs and were able to hold on to get the win. Braden Looper was given a 9-1 lead, but it took so long to score those runs and to get him back on the mound, he lost all momentum from the first 4 innings. Thankfully Big Red Seth McClung came to the rescue and got Dan Uggla to K with the bases loaded. This was a game where it wasn't because the Brewers were better, but the Marlins were just awful. Walking the 7-8-9 hitters with the bases loaded? That's Little League awful.Couldn't have said it better myself, which is exactly why I didn't. The rest of what you need to take away from this game is that Braun hit his 10th home run of the season, Hoffman was dominating again in collecting his 14th save of the season, McClung did an amicable job in long relief, and Bill Hall looked dirty awful. The Crew will look to tie the series tonight with a 6:05pm start time.
