I Watched Hockey Tonight

Tonight I did something I haven't done since the mid-1990s, I watched nearly an entire hockey game. I think the last full hockey game I watched the most of was the Milwaukee Admirals game I went to when I was 11, well before the Ben Sheets era began. But it happened tonight, as I went to a sports bar with only one big screen TV, and this was the game that happened to be on.

Sure, I was still able to catch Game 7 of the San Antonio / New Orleans series, and witnessed the end of the Jon Lester no-hitter, but for the majority of the night my eyes were on the ice. I have to say, it was a pretty entertaining game, in which the Detroit Red Wings knocked off the Dallas Stars to head to the Stanley Cup Finals.

Honestly, I've never been a big hockey fan, which I mainly attribute to the fact Wisconsin never had a pro team. While I didn't hate watching the game tonight, I still feel disconnected from the game. There are pretty good odds I don't watch a minute of the Stanley Cup, unless it's on at another bar I go to.

How about you guys? I'm curious to know if you guys feel disconnected from the game too, or if you've adopted a team and fell in love with the game.

I had no interest in hockey whatsoever till I lived in Buffalo for a summer and watched 4 Sabres playoff games with the guys I stayed with in the first week I was there. Now that I've moved away, I don't care much anymore, but at least I have some team to feel like I'm connected to.

I watched Hockey in like the 1990's. Since than i only watch the finals if there is nothing better on. We do need a team because the sport is something that is fun to watch but without a home team you dont really focus on a team but a player.

The only way to watch hockey is live, in a small area. As far as NHL goes, there are WAY too many teams and regular season games. Finally, the size of the rink needs to be increased to the Olympic size standard to open up and speed up a game. NHL players have gotten so much bigger, all these 6'5" guys skating around and kicking each other's a...s Give them more room. Just my two cents.
