We'd Love to Have You Back, Vonnie

Monday, March 2, 2009 ·

The two things I love the most are home-comings and careers coming full circle, and both of those situations could occur in the upcoming days. Former Packers defensive end Vonnie Holliday is going to be cut by the Miami Dolphins, and there is already plenty of speculation of him returning to Green Bay.

Holliday was acquired by the Packers in the first round of the 1998 NFL Draft, and stayed in Green Bay for five seasons. In his rookie season, he was second in Defensive Rookie of the Year voting, only behind current Packer Charles Woodson. He then went to play with the Chiefs and most recently the Miami Dolphins. He's a guy who has played under Dom Capers and in the 3-4, two signs which could point to his return to Titletown (the real one, not Valdosta, Georgia).

There's no official word of interest from the Packers, but I wouldn't mind a reuniting between Holliday and Green Bay. The Packers are still actively looking for defensive linemen, having made contact with Igor Olshansky (San Diego), Marques Douglas (Baltimore), and Mike Wright (New England). The search for new bodies along the line is an aggressive one, especially since the Pack was unable to resign Colin Cole or land Chris Canty last weekend.

Elsewhere, fullback John Kuhn is visiting with the Cardinals today.

Bring Vinnie back! I agree, we could use him on the D-line, plus like you said always nice to have a homecoming especially for a guy like Holliday
